Joggers

It amazes me how much fabric choice changes a single pattern. When I decided to tackle a new blog series this year, Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats, I knew fabric choice was going to play a huge role in what I’d be able to do with just one pattern. Sly Fox Fabrics to the rescue! Where better to find a gorgeous variety of bottom weight fabrics to show how versatile one pattern can be?

I hope you’ll join me over at sarcasticsewist.com to follow along as I sew up 5 Out Of 4 Patterns Diane Joggers once every month in a new way, with a different fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics! I’ll be tackling many of the options included in the pattern as well as small (and not so small) hacks, in different types of fabrics to create 12 unique bottoms, from shorts to pants and some fun extras thrown in, just for fun.

As I said, it amazes me that fabric choices play such a large role in what a pattern can be used for. This great Baby French Terry, and I’m rocking the comfiest lounge pants. But what will happen when I change out this casual fabric for something with more structure? Or something a bit sleeker? How can I use just this one pattern to make pants, capris, and shorts for all aspects of my life? For the casual, the fun, the office? Change the fabric! Duh.

I will be using a bunch of different, gorgeous Sly Fox Fabrics to show how this small change completely alters the look and feel, as well as the use of the jogger pattern. Everything from these comfy, lounge pants to professional work wear. I’m going to show you how to use the fabric and pattern features to create just what you’re looking for!

But I can’t just have bottoms right? Topless is not the thing I want to be known for. So, why not use the convenient coordinates already listed on the website to make a lovely top to match? Sly Fox takes the guesswork out of it for you if you’re scared or lacking confidence in picking out your own matching fabrics. Plus, if you’re not sure, or overwhelmed, ask on the facebook group! You’ll get great suggestions, often from others who have the fabric and love it!

I’m also going to be giving away 5oo4 gift cards, so you can sew along with me and add creative and versatile bottoms (and tops) to your closet!

Stephanie Troemel learned to sew from her grandmother when Stephanie was a little girl. She loves a good challenge, like pattern hacking, equally as much as she likes day-to-day sewing. When Stephanie isn't sewing, you can probably find her cooking, reading, or curled up with her kitten.
