Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats! Episode 12: Show Stoppers by Stephanie Troemel

Posted on December 20 2019

Holy smokes, Batman, it is already December!!  I don’t know about you, but my house is a rush of finishing sewing for the holidays, gearing up for some big changes in the house, and enjoying the twinkle lights!  Also, this is the last edition of this year’s  Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats!

I wanted to end the year bold and festive!  Gotta be a show stopper, right?  I am thrilled with the last few little changes I made to make these pants happen!  I also can’t resist feeling amazing in these!  I am comfortable, but feel super cute and ready for any holiday festivities!  This month’s jogger has just a couple hacks.  A small tweak to the pocket hack I’ve been using all year, just to change the shape a little.  Add a contrast stripe down the side.  Pair these small changes with the perfect Techno Scuba!!  Another double knit this month, keeping me warm and giving me the structure for that perfectly finished look of being a step up from jammies, while still feeling like them.

This contrast stripe makes me so happy!  It was easy to add and I LOVE how it breaks up this very, very bold print.  I also used the black as my pocket lining.  It really highlights the pocket and stripe and adds a bit of interest.

I also stuck with the high waist cut line and added that extra inch to the waistband.  I knew I was cutting this top as a regular tank (well, a fancy tank), but I also knew I wanted to see how it looked knotted up and faux crop.  Did I mention I’m obsessed with last month’s crop top?  I need a million more!  But I love that this doubles as a regular top, for when crop doesn’t work.

I really, really love this top.  It is my first sew of it and I’ll definitely be making more.  I chose to leave off the optional straps because I have cute bralettes to wear with it and love the optional bare shoulder look.  This is absolutely perfect in the solid Double Brushed Poly.  I can’t wait to try it in a print, though not with these pants.  I adore the flounce and think it is the perfect place for some fun florals or even stripes!  Definitely dots.  Oh dang!  Gotta order some dots.

Another comfy and cute outfit added to my closet and I have loved every single piece of this series.  Be sure to check out all of them in Edition 12 of Work It!.  What’s coming next for Work It?  Keep an eye on Sarcastic Sewist to find out!

I hope you’ll join me over at sarcasticsewist.com to follow my 2019 blog series, Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats!, where I sew up 5 Out Of 4 Patterns Diane Joggers once every month in a new way, with a different fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics! I’ll be tackling many of the options included in the pattern as well as small (and not so small) hacks, in different types of fabrics to create 12 unique bottoms, from shorts to pants and some extras thrown in, just for fun.

Stephanie Troemel learned to sew from her grandmother when Stephanie was a little girl. She loves a good challenge, like pattern hacking, equally as much as she likes day-to-day sewing. When Stephanie isn't sewing, you can probably find her cooking, reading, or curled up with her kitten.
