It is back to school time and I am here for it! Autumn is clearly the best season. Chilly evenings, hot beverages, actually being able to exist outside without sweating. Ok, that isn’t what’s happening in Atlanta right now but that is my idyllic autumn weather, so we’ll pretend it is here already. This month for Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats!
Back to school basics means jeans for me! I was so excited to try the Stretch Denim. It is GORGEOUS!!! The weight is exactly what I want for a jean. Not so thin that I feel like it is going to show every lump and bump, not actually look like a jean, and wear out super-fast with these mermaid thighs that definitely touch. But also not so thick that I’ll just be a puddle of sweat that no one wants. The stretch is amazing, and the recovery just rocks!
I did hack the pattern to make them look more like jeans. Moved the patch pockets to inside pockets. Added back pockets. Topstitching all over, including a faux fly! Plus, I slimmed the leg down to a skinny leg! Seriously loving how they fit and wear. These are going to be my go to jeans!!
Bonus, to reduce bulk in those inside pockets, I used leftover black swim knit, from Edition 7 for the pocket lining!! It is lightweight and so soft! I love how my hands slide in so smooth and it is cool and comfy.
For my shirt, I just wanted a really comfy sweater type feel. Not too hot, but still good for that evening chill I’m hoping will show up soon. I went with Baby French Terry (I used the two tone hunter green. It is currently sold out, BUT was a part of the pre-order, so keep an eye out for restocking!).
I’m in love with the fit of this raglan and how easy the French Terry is to wear. I am definitely happily comfortable. Even while I’m waiting for the cool weather to make it down here, I’ll love this one for my office, which is always freezing!!
I hope you’ll join me over at sarcasticsewist.com to follow my 2019 blog series, Work It: 12 Months, 1 Pattern, No Repeats!, where I sew up 5 Out Of 4 Patterns Diane Joggers once every month in a new way, with a different fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics! I’ll be tackling many of the options included in the pattern as well as small (and not so small) hacks, in different types of fabrics to create 12 unique bottoms, from shorts to pants and some extras thrown in just for fun.
Stephanie Troemel learned to sew from her grandmother when Stephanie was a little girl. She loves a good challenge, like pattern hacking, equally as much as she likes day-to-day sewing. When Stephanie isn't sewing, you can probably find her cooking, reading, or curled up with her kitten.
